and even though for can be used that way doesn’t mean it should.

in favor of; on the side of: to be for honest government.

I still think that “honest government” shouldn’t be a person.
saying, “I am in favor of Obama” or “I’m on Obama’s side” or “I’m an Obama guy” just sound better.
