Last night I had some friends over for a game night, which included a playtest session of the latest version of Cortex Command on the projector screen and proper analog controllers. Here are some screen shots of the end of Matthew Wegner‘s epic 20+ minute struggle on the ‘Death’ difficulty setting:
The AI bots literally wore a deep groove in the terrain in the east approach.
This tunnel is what financed the base defense.
And here’s the guy responsible for digging the whole thing! He could stay down there because of the simplified gold collection scheme… as soon as there was enough money collected, another base defense guy was bought and called in to push back the onslaught at the base!

Pretty cool. I like how there are living robots mashed into the hole that the brain is in.
Matt Wegner played? Awesome! I await his preview on Fun Motion with gleeful glee. As well as the latest test build. 😀
This awesome 😀 I can’t wait untill the next version!
Also, I hope Matt puts your game on Fun-Motion 🙂 It will gain SO much popularity! 😀 😀 😀
So when will this be finished? Will there be a map editor?
He’s probably wrighting an article about it at this very moment 😀 since it’s the best pixle game ever and everything
Foogooman… right now it’s mostly just an engine with a test skirmish game on top (which can still be fun!). We’re trying to make an actual game out of it for release by early to mid 2007!
Yes, we plan to have it include an in-game scene/map editor for sure. You’ll be able to draw out the terrain layers and place both bunkers, terrain objects and actors all over.
Check the official forums for an up-to-the-day sneak peek.
But ya gotta make a scene editor before then! D:
The game test-run was sweet! Everyone seemed to have alot of fun playing!
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun 🙂
This game reminds me of Team Buddies. 8)
Ohh… must have new version!! Btw is the sheild-in-one-arm-weapon-in-the-other-arm ready?? And is the gibbing thingy ready???
Fun-Motion is one of my favorite sites.
I’m always on there. 😛
Anyways, I hope Matt can do a review (or preview) of the game. :]
[…] The LotR also showed us his latest version of his brainchild, Cortex Command. The guys enjoyed playing it, and here are some screenshots of the epic struggle that took place from the cushions of our sofa. […]
[…] Cortex Command, the amazing pixel physics game from Data Realms, is really starting to come together. If you haven’t heard of the project before you should definitely check it out. I happen to be friends–and unicycling buddies–with Data himself, and had a chance to check out the latest build the other day over at his place (the epic results of which are detailed on his blog). […]
i dont get the point how do u win and how do u get to create your own level?
For the single player test, there are no winning conditions set up in the current build… just survive as long as possible and have fun with all the crap that happens.
We are working on both a scene editor and full blown singleplayer campaign with a storyline and specific goals for each ‘mission’. Stay tuned 🙂
oh sweet thanks:-)
PWNT!! lol
Will the real game cost any money?
Death Comps are too easy you just run over to their base and defeat team but if you focus on defense there are impossible to defeat by yourself.
