Build 21Here it is folks. Going to update this post later with more info. There’s not much new content, but many many new features! That’s why the price discount stays the same for this update.

Got to catch a flight in an hour, and haven’t packed or showered yet (another all nighter)… so enjoy! I’ll write more soon!

UPDATE: Ok stuck in airport terminal, so can write about some of the new features. There may not seem like a lot of difference at first glance, but there’s eight months of important work done under the hood. On the other hand, there really isn’t much new content in this one; it’s all been about laying the foundation for the real production that can now start in earnest.

Without further ado, some of the new features:

  • Full support for any screen resolution your graphics driver can handle! Cortex Command in HD, baby!
  • New audio system that is far more robust. No more missed sound effects. All non-UI audio pitches down when the simulation starts going slower than real time. More about this later.
  • Simulation speed partially decoupled from real time. It’s allowed to smoothly slow down into slomo without sacrificing FPS when the simulation becomes too heavy for your machine to keep at real time. You can turn this off with Ctrl+O. Again, more on this later.
  • Lua engine and console now integrated, and almost whole existing C++ engine exposed to it. The console can be accessed with the [~] key (left of your [1] key). Exhaustive documentation of the full Lua interface is coming soon!
  • Lua scripting of entire Activity logic! This allows for any game rules we want to make the missions have, and any multiplayer style as well, like CTF or king of the hill, etc.
  • First draft of data-driven Campaign screen. You can select eligible scenes/sites directly on the planet. As more mods and official content is loaded, more sites/missions will show up on the planet. This menu will evolve into the metagame eventually.
  • Completely new licesning system that allows you to reset your own key, AND to register/play with that key offline. Reset and update your keys at http://licensing.datarealms.com
  • Many many bug fixes and tweaks everywhere.

UPDATE 2: Whoops, there was a menu bug in the first release of b21.. one line of code which causes the main menu to get shifted in higher resolutions, screwing up skirmish menu etc. Just uninstall the old one, re-download and install again if you got it before this update appeared.

PLEASE UNINSTALL ANY PREVIOUS VERSION BEFORE INSTALLING THIS ONE!

  28. Cole - # August 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 am

OH MY GOD!!!! BUILD 21 IS HERE!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU DATA!!!

I hope some cool features are in here…maybe Lua?

  29. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 am

Can some one tell me why the installer is fucked up? its Getting the errors saying “can not extrate folder for wrighting” im losing my mind here!

  30. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 am

    ^extract*

  31. war_man333 - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:05 am

    Mine’s not fucked up.
    Mine worked.
But the the update is abit ‘eh’ for the people who don’t mod / don’t know lua.
    For me, it adds concrete.
Hopefully the next update won’t be a letdown for me.. :c
I tried to do those console commands you did , none of them worked. I was like wtf, and then I went back to HL2.
Now I’m waiting for some lua mods.

  32. Zinc - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:08 am

Omg sweet Jesus Christ in Heaven with an Oar paddling Exploding Pigs down at Satan this is AMAZING!

  33. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:08 am

    well this is freaking wonderful

  34. Darksinner - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:09 am

    yessssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. ToadMan - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 am

Actually, I find it adds a lot. At least if you use maps. The scene editor will be interesting to see implemented and I can’t wait to see what modders do with Lua. Also, the new sound system that allows for the game to slow down is really helping the game run more smoothly.

  36. dabingo - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:16 am

Yes! Thank you, data! You rock!

  37. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:17 am

Build 20 installs fine, i re-installed it. But this one seems messed up, is there another port for the download?

  38. p3lb0x - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:23 am

    http://licensing.datarealms.com/
Guys, you can reset your own keys here and upgrade them. Upgrading your key allows you to install CC on a computer without internet and anti reset is nice

  39. PlasmaNova - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 am

    yes

  40. Durza - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:34 am

    Dear god yes.

  41. Zinc - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:40 am

I can’t find out how to open the LUA module…. anyhow, the new Campaign level can’t be beaten so far as I know…. and also, are lots of particles/damage supposed to cause the music to slow down?

  42. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 am

i CANT EVEN INSTALL THE FUGGIN THING!!!

  43. UsF - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 am

    Thanks for the new update.

    Have a safe trip.

  44. PRZ - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 am

It’s cool, looks like the AI is more aggressive now and will, you know, shoot you judiciously until you are no more. Good stuff.

There’s one problem, though – the ground appears to be a bit too soft. You don’t even need to dig: you can wiggle through it. Note the skeleton in the centre of the screen: http://img382.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screendump000la1.png

(Ignore my cheese AI trap base design… though it still works :D )

  45. Decimus62 - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:49 am

    @Washcloth
Are you running vista? Somtimes it won’t extract things into Program Files. try installing it to the desktop and then moving it.

  46. Mooseral - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:53 am

Epic winsauce. Thanks for getting this out.

Also, key liscense changes. Oooh. I forgot about those. Sounds good; the previous system required chicken sacrifice before working properly between my computers…

Aha, but I have not tried this version yet. We shall see… AWAY

  47. Shook - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:58 am

Oho, this looks awesome, in the power of 9001. Currently having problems with
my upgraded key, but maybe i need to install B21 first :P

  48. FinDude - # August 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 am

    Blergh, its good I guess…

    Cortex Command: PermaMatrix Edition

    ;_;

  49. Tea - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:03 am

I think you should disable the sound slowing stuff for music.

  50. Krumbs - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 am

Thanks Data, you may be three days late from the release date. But that’s because you were making it good for us.

And anyway, sometimes the anticipation is better than the finished product.

  51. austonst - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:11 am

A couple of notes about the new build…

Currently, we know pretty much nothing about the Lua commands. Data’s examples in the previous devlog posts didn’t work when entered exactly in a skirmish on Horiz Land, but the most I could do was making myActor the brain through MovableMan:GetMOFromID(1) and setting the position somewhere else. It only seemed to work once though.

Anyone tried dropping a dropship loaded with a hundred crabs recently? There seems to be some sort of music slowing/speeding up effect to match the slowdown of your computer.

  52. Washcloth - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:12 am

ok i finally got it to work

  53. Neoseeker - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 am

    fucking finally

  54. W0w00t - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:21 am

    HOLYFUCKSHIT

  55. Jonathon - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:25 am

OH GOD YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES.

    Thank you Data!

  56. Purplepuss - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:26 am

I opened the Lua console thinguhmajgjgig with Mr. Tilde~. (To people who didn’t know how to open it.)

Seems like epic win so far. (Even though the sticky concrete made a line going to the sprayer when I tried to concrete my brain bunker up. Also, Maginot on Skirmish (Death Mode) has no enemies. That or they’re getting mixed up in the non-wrapping map. Oh well.)

  57. Hariku - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:32 am

Yay! 3 days late isn’t that bad. At least it wasn’t like a week or anything! I love you Data!

  58. Lord Tim - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 am

    Yaaaay!

  59. Shook - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 am

Hmm, am i the only one experiencing a constant slowdown of everything?
It’s kind of annoying, since it slows down all sounds as well, and i’m
    not even doing anything :|

  60. KillDeer (formerly Chris) - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 am

    FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Yea @48, I’m having CC Matrix reloaded…
Ctrl+O should propably hlep on that.
This is a great thing tho,
updates will get “alot” more frequent?

  63. Cayne - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:57 am

    I came.

    Twice.

  64. Divreus - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:02 am

  65. Naka - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:07 am

Thank you Data, thanks for not giving in!

  66. Tomaster - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 am

Holy crap, no build for 8 months, and only 25 comments in, people are saying it’s a letdown…show some gratitude, people

  67. Divreus - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:15 am

    Lol,I never read shit,so now I have 2 cortex commands.XD

  68. KillDeer (formerly Chris) - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:16 am

I’m loving being able to play in my 1400×900 resolution. Thanks Data.

  69. FinDude - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 am

    wow cool!!!!

  72. Timo - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:22 am

Über LUA mods, Here we come!!! SOHAPPYSOHAPPYSOHAPPYSOHAPPYSOHAPPYSOHAPPY!!!!

  73. Sixteen - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 am

    Thantk you data.

I wonder when people will beg for b22.

  74. Nick Fury - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 am

Awesome, I love the new sounds. However, I have had some problems. For one, when a dropship exploded the game crashed. Also, I had some issues with the jetpack sounds doing what the diggers used to, looping constantly. I love the resolution changing, but the menus don’t stay centered.

Still some bugs, but I’m still wicked excited for this.

  75. The Advisor - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 am

I just had sixteen accidents at the same time….

  76. BakedNoodle - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 am

Thanks Dan for such a great game, goes to show that you don’t need to be EA or Blizzard to put out a good game.

I knew there was a good reason to buy the support edition!

    -Evan

  77. Sixteen - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 am

The only bad thing I can think about this is that, with the slowing down thing, multiplayer will be even more impossible. It will be impossible to sync the two computers. It’s not like multiplayer was even possible before this anyways, though.

  78. Tendrop - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 am

    MYYYYY EYEESS BLEEEEEED!!!

  79. Xeom - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:33 am

How come at larger resolutions the game slows down big time?
Isn’t the simulation always the same?
Shouldnt it just be my gfx card doing the drawing?

  80. Tomaster - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:42 am

Can this be installed over B20?

  81. Shook - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:50 am

I did so, and it works fine, so yes.
Also, i love the little detail that peoples heads now rotate along
with the body when knocked out of balance :D

  82. Zinc - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:07 pm

is it possible to make new Campaigns yet? I couldn’t find the file for the Campaign missions in the Base.rte. I don’t think it’d be too hard to make one (at least on without special stuff)

  83. war_man333 - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:09 pm

There’s a lot of small things that were annoying that has been fixed, that’s nice.
I hope you make some lua documentation very soon because I’m eager to gib my own actors!
Also I think I take it back, this update isn’t so bad after all, I just had a shitty day today.

  84. Lord Tim - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:10 pm

P.S. Data, you know how the “not equals” operator in Lua is “~=”, well try putting that into the console.

Also, it’d totally be cool if we could get like a scroll bar or something..

    ALSO LUA ROCKS

    Also, userdata sucks.

  85. Foa - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:11 pm

I’M BLEEDING FROM MY FACIAL OPENING!!!

  86. Lord Tim - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm

also, release some info on that super special i/o stuff that you were going to leave in. Not the io library, but the save folders and whatnot.

  87. Tomaster - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:14 pm

In all my letters, I try harder than anything else to make myself clear. I try to state things as simply and unambiguously as I can because I find that that’s the best way to convince my readers that incoherent vigilantes of one sort or another have traditionally tried to piggyback on substantive issues to gain legitimacy for themselves. Before I get moving here, let me point out that if the past is any indication of the future, Sir Daniel Tabar will once again attempt to deny the obvious. He hates it when you say that his cock-and-bull stories are but a speck in a constellation of methodologies used by demagogism to let us know exactly what our attitudes should be towards various types of people and behavior. He really hates it when you say that. Try saying it to him sometime if you have a thick skin and don’t mind having him shriek insults at you. I have frequently criticized Sir Tabar’s unspoken plan to abrogate some of our most fundamental freedoms. He usually addresses my criticisms by accusing me of immoralism, pessimism, child molestation, and halitosis. Sir Tabar hopes that by delegitimizing me this way, no one will listen to me when I say that Sir Tabar wants to grasp at straws, trying to find increasingly gloomy ways to wipe out delicate ecosystems. Faugh.

If Sir Tabar has any children, I recommend that he teach them about love, trust, cooperation, community, reason, negotiation, and compromise rather than violence, paranoia, and fear. Perfidious troglodytes of one sort or another are intrigued and puzzled by his amalgam of lethargic snobbism and dour careerism — a tangled web of KKK, Freudian, encounter-therapy, populist, Ayn Rand-like, and Marxist notions. Disguised in this drollery is an important message: He has been doing “in-depth research” (whatever he thinks that means) to prove that anyone who resists him deserves to be crushed. I should mention that I’ve been doing some research of my own. So far, I’ve “discovered” that my goal is to demonstrate conclusively that Sir Tabar is filled with unrighteousness, wickedness, and maliciousness. I will not stint in my labor in this direction. When I have succeeded, the whole world will know that Sir Tabar has gotten away with so much for so long that he’s lost all sense of caution, all sense of limits. If you think about it, only a man without any sense of limits could desire to plunge the whole of Christendom into wars and chaos.

What do you think of this: One cannot help but notice that Sir Tabar’s opposition to separatism has been more rhetorical than substantive? To inform you of the grounds upon which I base my actions, I offer the following. The more pressing news is that as a dynamic historical current, nonrepresentationalism has taken many different forms and has evolved dramatically in some ways. Still, I recommend you check out some of Sir Tabar’s slogans and draw your own conclusions on the matter.

Anyone who hasn’t been living in a cave with his eyes shut and his ears plugged knows that I’ve never bothered Sir Tabar. Yet Sir Tabar wants to relabel millions of people as “incomprehensible”. Whatever happened to “live and let live”? He apparently believes that hanging out with footling, loud punks is a wonderful, culturally enriching experience. You and I know better than that. You and I know that Sir Tabar keeps trying to form the association in the public’s mind between any theories he disagrees with and the ideas of hate and violence and illegality. And if we don’t remain eternally vigilant, he will unequivocally succeed. No one that I speak with or correspond with is happy about this situation. Of course, I don’t speak or correspond with unimaginative grifters, Sir Tabar’s acolytes, or anyone else who fails to realize that if Sir Tabar can’t stand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen.

Unless advertising is the most veridical form of human communication, it is simply wrong to conclude that Sir Tabar has achieved sainthood. His secret passion is to blend together prætorianism and propagandism in a train wreck of monumental proportions. For shame! He is a man utterly without honor, without principles, without a shred of genuine patriotism. That’s why I say that Sir Tabar has announced his intentions to impact public policy for years to come. While doing so may earn Sir Tabar a gold star from the mush-for-brains paternalism crowd, when I’m through with him he’ll think twice before attempting to convince impressionable young people that genocide, slavery, racism, and the systematic oppression, degradation, and exploitation of most of the world’s people are all entirely justified. It’s obviously astounding that Sir Tabar has somehow found a way to work the words “pathologicohistological” and “isomerizeparabolization” into his recommendations. However, you may find it even more astounding that whenever he is blamed for conspiring to interfere with my efforts to make some changes here, he blames his apparatchiks. Doing so reinforces their passivity and obedience and increases their guilt, shame, terror, and conformity, thereby making them far more willing to help Sir Tabar create an untrue and injurious impression of an entire people. Now that you’ve heard what I’ve had to say, I want you to think about it. And I want you to join me and shed the light of truth on the evil that is Sir Daniel Tabar.

I love the complaint generator beyond all belief

  88. war_man333 - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:26 pm

What’s with the pointless complaint generator post? :/

  89. Zinc - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:27 pm

I don’t know how to use the LUA…. anything I should try starting with in LUA? What should I put in as code?

  90. Tomaster - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm

    It’s just fun…

  91. Zinc - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Yes but i have no clue how it works….

  92. The Advisor - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:40 pm

Ok I’ve got a scene with some test areas and all that, but HOW THE FUDGE DO I TELL THE GAME TO KILL THEM WHEN THEY GO IN IT!!!!!!!!

P.S. I still love you Data, and I hope the exhaustive guide to LUA is up soon.

  93. The Advisor - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Also the music is kind of wonky. You might want to decouple(right term I hope) it from the game speed cause it really sounds weird.

  94. Divreus - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:52 pm

:O HATH EVERYONE FORGOTTEN HOW TO SPELL Lua?Lua is Lua!Lua SHALL NEVER BE LUA,lua,LUa,lUa,lUA,luA,lau,lu,OR ANYTHING OF THE LIKE!YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED!(Except anyone who spelled Lua the right way, like Data.)Lord Tim should be especially ashamed:YOU HATH BE A FORUM MODERATOR,AND YET YOU BRING SHAME TO THE NAME OF Lua!?!?I’ll shut up now.

  95. Lazyfaith - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pm

YAY! It’s finaly hear. I can’t wait to use it :)

I bet loads of people forgot about the sticky concrete and that funny picture to go with it (lol).

  96. Bolter - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:55 pm

    Wohoo!

  97. Omni (Omnimmotus) - # August 23rd, 2008 at 12:56 pm

    I like that this happened.

Thanks for the new build Data. Many e-Hugs and congratulations. Time to sit back and see what the mod community can come up with. :)

  98. FinDude - # August 23rd, 2008 at 1:04 pm

    Meh.
Update is good as the debris now crushes itself, and Lua is taking its first steps. Resolution and others too.

But, as Build 21 makes the game just barely playable on lower
spec computer(s), it is not nice. Just not. It’s wrong.
ALSO WTF DATA MADE A TYPO!!!! “Simluation speed” :<

    Ps.
open console, start typing in A = MovableMan:GetMOFromID(x),
then print(A), replacing x with a nuber ’till you hit a
actorname (Ie. “Dummy”). Then, type A.Vel = Vector(0,-80).
Now, a random actor (In this example, some dummy)
will fly upwards at funny speed. Kthxbai.

Even better than documentation would be if you put something in the userdata that would return all the functions that userdata contains. Super helpful and also autodocumenting.

  103. The Advisor - # August 23rd, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Uh the first part makes sense, but I loose you when your saying print (A) and replace the x.

The mod community can’t come up with shit until they actually find out what the commands are,it’s like telling a kindergartener to do multiplication.

I’m having some problem registering… It says that my email doesn’t match my key, but I’m looking at the licensing page right now, and it matches what I typed in. – It says email mismatch…

  111. Lord Tim - # August 23rd, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Actually, I’m not. I don’t have sysop on the wiki anymore.

But where is the Mac OS version??

  113. The Advisor - # August 23rd, 2008 at 2:53 pm

    @93

Same thing happened to me(I think. can you be more specific). I got it to work by closing CC then opening it again. In case you didn’t know you have to upgrade your key(it’s FREE) otherwise it won’t work.

  114. Coded One - # August 23rd, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Wow, this is fucking retarded. My installer is being a bitch.

    Error opening file for writing:

    C:\Program Files\Data Realms\Cortex Command\Cortex Command.exe.manifest

I can Retry, Abort, or Skip. If I skip, it goes to the next file, and then the next one. If I retry, it gives me the same error. If I abort, the install stops.

Help plz? I’m using Vista Home Edition and I already uninstalled and unregistered the old Build.

Help, this is really fucking annoying.

  117. Lord Tim - # August 23rd, 2008 at 3:30 pm

Also, Data, do you have a pause or wait function somewhere hidden in your Luas? Because Lua by default doesn’t have something like that without the os.time() and such.

  118. war_man333 - # August 23rd, 2008 at 3:32 pm

    @96 Hiro
Data said that after this update he can really start adding some campaign stuff and possible some new content, so hold on!

  119. Nick Fury - # August 23rd, 2008 at 3:41 pm

This is really frustrating. My CC keeps crashing. It doesn’t give a real error, just the window that says it needs to close. :/

  120. Aspect - # August 23rd, 2008 at 3:41 pm

Yeah, so I updated my key, then i tried to make it work with the new key, but it said email mismatch. When I used my old one it said that I had it registered twice, even though i didn’t. Ill try fiddling around with it a bit more, but right now I can’t get it to work.

  133. Divreus - # August 23rd, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Data, are you accepting suggestions for build 22?If so,i have tons of ideas…
The campaign could have a sort of unit/craft/weapon editor that let you build from a selection of parts(you can even sell packs with more parts)and you could set the durability of each part(more durability cost more oz. to design and buy)and if its a weapon, you could set the firing rate, reload rate, damage, etc.Craft could have durability and fuel source(determines how strong thrusters are and also how much damage they do),you could also set a number of missions you have to wait before you can use it(the scientists need time to construct and test prototypes),and if you don’t wait for it to be completed, you just use the prototype(has a high chance of exploding or life support failing while it comes down from the trade star.)If life support fails, you still get the craft, but any non mechanical units in it die…well, thats enough for one post,I’m gonna wait until someone else posts before I continue(oh yeah, you could also charge people to get the editors). And no flamers please, every time someone flames,a great person turns into a n00b,and we don’t want Data becoming a n00b,do we?(Well,Data is more of an Uber person).

  134. Aspect - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:54 pm

After testing the new build, my love of CC is renewed.
I love the campaign screen so far, can’t wait to see what it becomes!
The area editor works as well as could be expected and I can’t wait to see what people make with it.
The console is driving me crazy right now, though, because I don’t know any commands! I’ll have to learn up quick.
Hopefully updates will come faster now that the pipeline is set up. I’m itching for some new “content” as you say.

  135. D - # August 23rd, 2008 at 11:54 pm

I’m having major issues with the latest build.

I’ve downloaded it, uninstalled the old build, then installed the new one. I try and play it and…

“Windows cannot access the specified path, device, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”

For the record, I am clicking on the actual exe, not a shortcut. Although I’ve tried both. And I’ve checked whether or not I have permission to open that exe. I do have permission.

Which leaves me annoyed and wondering why I cannot play Build 21. I’ve checked the CC thread on Facepunch, the CC forums listed on the main site, and these dev log comments. Noone else has reported a problem like mine.

The old version works fine (and I liked it so much I bought it). I was looking forward to playing with sticky concrete but now I’m just pissed.

I’ve tried re-downloading the setup file, not to mention I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled a shitload of times, as well as trying to run it in various different safe modes.

I’m banging my head on my table right now because NOTHING is working and noone is having this issue and, gah. Does anyone have any ideas?

I’ve got Windows XP, dual monitors, one is an LCD 1400×900, the other is a CRT 1024×768. Video card is a Nvidia Geforce 7600. 2 gigs of ram. 500 gb HD. Ect.

But I hardly see how any of that matters since *BUILD 20 WORKED FINE*.

    Gah. *bangs head into table*

    Any ideas? Any?

  136. Some guy - # August 24th, 2008 at 1:22 am

Friendly fire has always been a big issue in this game with me i can never get more then one guy firing in the same direction as my guy if they are level. If you are taking suggestions then maybe some kind of friendly fire enable/disable (also so your units can walk past eachother with out clawing over them, probably ripping there legs off while in the progress) so units can shoot past each other? I’m just suggesting not complaining, it would be cool to have ff on or off. Btw on the build it is awesome, way less laggy.

I’m working on doing a complete dump of the lua environment as it is from the main menu.
data was smart enough to remove the io library but I can get luasocket to load so I have to set up a simple server on my system that logs everything sent to it and write a script to recurse into each and every table and send their contents to the server

  141. nckomodo - # August 24th, 2008 at 3:25 am

also fyi the lua console is really fucking itty bitty on a 1680*1050 monitor :s

It looks like there’s some sort of crazy bug going on.
My code works perfectly in a standard lua environment and luasocket works perfectly in cortex command, but for some reason the lua environment throws an error after a few iterations through _G, I’m working on tracking down just where it happens because it doesn’t give me a line number.
The error is “no such operator defined”

  156. Numgun - # August 24th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Haha oh man the slomo is just EPIC. I laughed my arse off when I made the game lag and the music went totally hilarious. The debris problem is now gone and I cant be any more happy about that.

Also now I’m really excited what will come in the next builds. If you can, please make line/rope in CC so we could use that to make grapling hook that Promster wanted too. It would absolutely rock.

Meanwhile I’ll wait for the Lua documentation and read the some tutorials how Lua works so I could understand how to do stuff with it.

  157. PlasmaNova - # August 24th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

HEY HEY HEY HEY i got an idea.

what if you made an item, that when you used it, it slowed down the time of the game! that would be so sick.

  158. Allen - # August 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

I will certainly download this once this build when it gets ported to mac. It sounds ridiculously fun though.

  159. war_man333 - # August 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Or something like this (if this was a source game hehe)

    bind a host_timescale 0.4

So when you pressed a it would go slowmo.

I just managed to find one of the LUA files and decided to read it, and all I can say is that oblivions LUA is a lot easier looking than this! I also noticed that it would appear that Data documented what all the LUA meant in the files.

  164. The Advisor - # August 24th, 2008 at 5:09 pm

Also it would seem that too win maginot you hav to kill the AI brain, but i haven’t noticed it. So is it there or not, and when will the documentation be up?

  194. Electroclan - # August 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Great build Data! Plenty of juicy stuff for modders to get into.

My greatest criticism though, is the rocket’s shock-absorbing legs. I’m assuming the original point of the legs was to make landing the rocket easier and to save the rocket from a hard landing.

It does none of these. Any landing attempt ends in a flipped rocket and a hard landing usually forces right through the legs and smashes the rocket.

I wish to have the rocket legs completely solid, like the old ones, and yet still move only when the rocket takes a really hard landing, like the new ones are supposed to.

The console could use a mouse, too. Arrow keys are slow.

The worst thing is that I thought that you made new music and new sound effect and it was just my slow computer. Add a way to disable the sound slowdown, because you know that it worked better previously. Anwyays, good job. And why can’t I do something like:
    actor = GetMOFromID(1)
    actor:GibThis()
    ?
And is there any way to loop through every actor?

  204. GranPC - # August 28th, 2008 at 4:44 am

Oops, answering myself, I can do a for loop, and then see if actor exists. Anyways, something like for each AHuman would be nice.

  205. GranPC - # August 28th, 2008 at 4:52 am

Holy crap! Try putting this in the console, it’s hilarous:
    for i=1, 12000, 12000 do actor = MovableMan:GetMOFromID(i); actor.Vel = Vector(100, 0); end
You can change the Vector(100, 0) to raise the speed, or decrease it. If you put Vector(-100, 0);, it will just go to the another way. Also, if you have more than 12000 actors (omgwtfbbq), raise the number in for i=1, etc.
If you raise the speed too much, the actors will disappear.

Oops, sorry, do this, else it will only do it in one actor.
    for i=1, 12000, 1 do actor = MovableMan:GetMOFromID(i); actor.Vel = Vector(100, 0); end

My head exploded with anticipation just to play, based off the world scene for campaign missions.

    Holy Playable Campaign Missions Batman!

    holywtf

what i find funny and annoying at the same time is:
I lage on most resolutions with this thing

yet i can play WoW with about medium settings and maxed res and run very smooth

  209. Memnoc - # August 29th, 2008 at 3:42 am

    LOL LAGE

    thanks

Well that’s kind of because WoW isn’t checking on every pixel to make sure it hasn’t moved and, in the case it does move, has to calculate tons of vectors.
I.E. no matter what game you compare CC to, nothing is as CPU intensive.

AI still isn’t smart enough to turn around. Nice.

  214. FinDude - # September 8th, 2008 at 6:47 am

Some1, Ctrl+O just turns off the
“One simulation update per frame” setting.
For me, a total salvation was pressing “4″ awhile.
    Press Ctrl+P and use 3&4
to adjust the real to sim cap around 60.
    Worked great for me.

Also GranPC just use actor in MovableMan.Actors to
go trough all actors there are.

  215. FinDude - # September 8th, 2008 at 6:48 am

*for actor in MovableMan.Actors do … end

It’s assumed that it is still in development.

On an unrelated note, the more I poke and play around with the sim cap, the more and more I love it. I just wish it didn’t slow down the music, though.

    Help please!

When I put my old key in the game it tells me to get it updated or upgraded but when I go to the liscensing site it tells me
    “Sorry… I can’t find that key.”

But the key does work but it says that it only works online.
