Here’s another interview of me by the indie scene scoopmaker Tim W. at IndieGames.com. This one is more about the development than the game itself, which complements the previous interview well.
The big news Tim breaks is that we now have a very experienced guy actually working on the Mac OSX port of Cortex Command! After many years in the ‘big’ games industry, Chris Kruger recently left his position at Rockstar Games to pursue freelance programming on his own. We are very fortunate to have him working with us on our project, and all you Mac users out there will soon be battling it out on your native platform!
Chris is one of those guys who actually enjoy porting games, so there’s a good chance other target platforms will be within our reach as well. Stay tuned…

Sweet! Mac Port!
GO DATA!
Nice man!
Just what i’ve been waiting for
Great! Just great. CC’s future is more and more exciting…
Wow. You got a guy from Rockstar Games PORTING your game?
Nice. I’m loving seeing CC get more credit, and it’s only going to get even more. Can’t wait.
The future of gaming is Cortex Command.
hittin’ it big, ain’t ya data realms?
I’m afraid alot what portion of fame may influence progress and(or) quality not in a best side… Glad it just my afraids…
Mercy-Jesus on a Christ-stick.
Dude, sweet.
IF YOU MAKE A CLONE CRAWL ONTO ANOTHER IT KINDA LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING SCANDALOUS BEFORE THEY BOTH EXPLODE FROM FUNKY COLLISIONS.
There we go, perhaps the controversy will add some extra fame.
Sweet!!! I CANT WAIT FOR THE FINAL GAME!
Is he gonna do something else than porting it?
“other tasks to get done, or just lazily surfing the web. The classic problems of working from home, basically.”
the downfall of us all
Though I dont care for the MAC, I have to say congrats =3 Hope to see it on consoles aswell =3
Hey data, any developments on the AI pathfinding?
Awesome, Hiro will be happy.
It’s great to see other ports in the works, let’s continue to expand the CC universe!
-Coded One
other ports besides mac? not that I play anything but on PC, but a port to xbox or more likely ps3 (with it’s higher processing power) would be really big for the game’s community
Yes! I live at two different houses, one of which has a piece of crap pc (Can hardly run solitaire) and a mac. Now i can play it at both houses!
Good to see things are always moving forward on CC
DataRealms is really growing.
With the piss poor selection of games that Mac users have nowadays, this should give them something to look forward to at last. Data, you deserve all the fame you get. You’ve put seven years of hard work into something that has brought happiness to so many people, including me. I hope that you get all the exposure you deserve, and I believe that one day people will look back on CC with the same respect given to Wolfenstein 3D or Dune 2: as one of the most groundbreaking and influential games of all time.
Rockstar member porting CC to mac?!?!
That’s just crazy!
Also, is he an official member of DRL now, or is he just a volenteer?
Generic Positive Comment.
No flame, but seriously… “Wheres the beef?”
AT least mac users will get to play something fun for once!!
(But I still wish I could play the games for mac on that lugaru website)
He’s a FORMER Rockstar employee. Who is probably porting the game just to port it; not as a part of the DRL team.
Thats awesome. This will quell all the angry Mac users.
Wait a second….
When will Cortex Command be completed?
Dunno.
Estimates?
About mid-2006
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What?!
He said that around mid-2006 he went with CC as his full time job.
No, he didn’t. he’s talking about LUA in that interview
and he mentioned the former Rockstar mac porter in the interview as well.
Anyway, look at the link for the interview,
it is dated May 2008. (…/blog/2008/05/…)
“[In] About mid-2006, I decided to give independence a shot and quit my last job”
Linux port????
What are the major differences between coding for windows/linux and coding for mac?
would be nice if you would mail me
Other ports? Like the Wii?
Seriously Data, this project has jumped massively recently, and looks even more promising than I originally expected.
Great work
Damn… When will we get that update about clutter being fixed? I’m happy Data’s getting more notice, but all these interviews are getting in the way of our Thursday updates!
Grats! Data!
Hmm… Now we just need a PSP port :p
Great! Although I’m not a Mac – User… ROCKSTAR ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAIL ROCKSTAR!
No!
Macs dont deserve CC!
it would be great on psp
almost everybody with a psp is now running on the hacked firmware 3.90 m33-3 or 3.93 m33 so why not
@26
“Estimates?
About mid-2006″
when I saw that I laughed, thought it was a joke, then I finished the sentence and realized it was just an introductory clause. Finish reading sentences before you jump to conclusions zalo.
Too bad there isn’t much new info in this update…
a *sniffle*…….mac?……..port?……….. im dreaming. thats the only explainaton
This is a great victory for all 6 Mac users who don’t use it for schoolwork.
Wii and PSP would be stupid, i doubt psp could handle it, and the wii just sucks, plus homebrew is just getting started and i doubt data would pay for an sdk just to port.
port to linux! so i can play on eeepc or the pandora im getting
gread of game¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Now all we need is a PSP port.
Yay
yayayay
YAYYY
thank you Data.
Rockstar games, wow.
mac port? who cares
build 21?
PLEASE
DRL with all its publicity, is loosing its small tight knit community feel.
Daw.
@47 : Hiro cares.
@48 : DRLFF was small enough in 2007, there’s wayy more people now, and because of these last two interviews, I think we will have much much much more members.
Nice! I think my friend will like this news.
@46
I told you Hiro would be happy.
nah i lied i didnt know
Lol you bet
No more evil pirate crack/cocaine torrent download thief badman windows emus for me.
Thank god!!! I didn’t know you were a pirate…
OFF-TOPIC ALERT: The servers back up yay.
ON-TOPIC: good work
YAY….
Servers up!
Why not make a new devlog post on that?
#47 can die…..
anyways, now mac users can enjoy cortex command : D.

Yay, servers up. But, jesus. Explosion took out THREE WALLS. Wow.
@56:
“i hope it will run smoothly, i have a 1.8 Ghz processor.”

AWESOME!! Just what i’ve been waiting for!
Any idea when it’ll be done? :3
Im buying a copy as soon as the mac port comes along
very excited
If you ported to Linux I’m pretty sure you’d get a lot of very positive attention.
Also; I’d like to play this on Linux
[...] Chris is doing a great job with the porting, and has made lots of progress. The code now builds and runs on Mac OSX, but there’s still some issues to iron out. [...]
really looking forward to the mac port
really looking forward to BUILD 21 GOD DAMNIT!
Linux port. ‘Nuf said.
I’ve very excited to hear you are doing a Mac port! Is there is a list I can get to find out when it is ready? I just stumbled across your website from a cool looking banner ad.
Thanks,
dana.
@44: They’re already porting it to the Pandora.
THIS IS SOOO COOL!!
i have played it and i have a mac and i can’t wait for the release
[...] big thank you and kudos goes to Chris Kruger who did a fantastic job getting this complex piece of software running on this great platform! [...]
Як на мене, то задорого
Bless god for flash cards, games are unaffordable nowadays and thanks to flash card stuff I can still game without having to pay tons of money.
