Invaders from Space!Just a quick update on what’s going on in DRL HQ. We’re crunching both to make the IGF submission, and the first commercial version of CC. The full in-game Scene Editor is now feature complete and we’re using it ourselves to build the real story scenarios that will make up the meat of of the Cortex Command experience. After six years in the making, we can finally say that we’ve transitioned from pre-production into actual production on this project. ;D

So, if you already enjoy the rickety skirmish mode of the test builds, you’re in for a treat. We are adding many times more content than you’ve seen so far. Environments, ships, guys, weapons, tools, game modes, cut scenes… oh my!

The Scene Editor will be included with the full game, and since we’re using it ourselves to build the game (aka “eating our own dog food”), it is shaping up to be quite powerful and user friendly.

Good things come to those who wait. Image to the left is purely fictitious fun.

Can’t wait to play the retail version. How much will it cost?

  2. whitty - # September 19th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

    $15-$20 USD

Fan Forums are turning ugly. There has not been many new mods and scenes for a while plus a lot of people in the forum are being over the top silly (in a bad way).

  4. Hazook - # September 20th, 2007 at 6:04 am

This sounds reeeeally promising just by reading that log.
I might actually buy this game since its being pure fun already and those extras, if not overhauls, are going to be cool.

  5. 3 Solid - # September 20th, 2007 at 9:29 am

I’m about this close to leaving.

Or atleast lurking and only posting mods.

  6. numgun - # September 20th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Data, please take a small overall look on the forums.

All the locked topics, and alot of banned people and tons of removed things that were removed for no proper explanation and also all the edits in peoples signatures are projectTHOR’s doing. He is no good for the community, he destroyed alot and messed up the rest, he made alot of people leave and not come back because of his way of abusing the moderator rights.

So Data, please remove ProjectTHOR from the forums once and for all. I beg you.

  7. Eric - # September 20th, 2007 at 4:59 pm

You all think you would keep your e-drama out of an area where the entire world can see it.

  8. Winterous - # September 20th, 2007 at 5:07 pm

He’s a meanie, and he complains a lot about irrelevant posts.

  9. Kurrus - # September 21st, 2007 at 10:38 am

    Eat shit and die.

Numgun is right, you are wrong, go to hell.

  10. TFSR - # September 21st, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Numgun, keep the forums out of this.
The problem is that people get excited and irritated. Move on, and suddenly, you realize there never was a problem.

  11. Purple - # September 21st, 2007 at 6:00 pm

Ok, I don’t need a response to that e-mail, I can safely assume you read it.

When a new player comes to the forums, they open up whatever section, probably general CC, or mods, and they see a lot of locked topics. They might be confused about the game, so they ask a question, it is partially answered, usually with a few “omg you nub” responses before the answer, and then the topic is locked.

I agree that “off-topic” or “fun forum” creates a confusion of rules across the entire forums. IRC is a good place to go for more relaxed chat, but last time I was there, it was just as hostile as the forums, only in real time.

I’ve been banned from the forums on one of ProjektTHOR’s power trips, yet I still check for updates, and new mods, because I honestly like this game. Except the community is like a bunker in build 14, and the unstoppable enemy clones are walking holes through the terrain, edging closer to the brain.

On a side-note, Cevius (comment 19), I love your artwork.

  12. Purple - # September 21st, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Sorry, a bunker in build *13.*

I don’t want to leave that beast of a comment stand by itself, so I’ll ask a question.

When is that artillery piece you showed us a while back being implemented? 😀

  13. Purple - # September 21st, 2007 at 6:15 pm

    Ok, triple comment!

I was thinking, a cool concept, and a way to introduce players to modding, in the campaign, would be:

Say in one level you crash-land, and your clone pops out of the rocket, but his gun isn’t working, or the bullets do no damage at all, and there are enemies over the next ridge. You get a small tutorial on simple modding, like change colours of bullets, or firing speed. Then you get a message from the brain, or whatever, that you must fix your gun, and in-game one of the files for the AK-47 opens up to… the ammo section, and one thing is wrong with the code, and the player is tasked with fixing it. It would be a really simple change, maybe edited a line back in, or setting the instance name of the round properly.

Then later, you could somehow introduce the player into changing weapons more dramatically, like the wrong magazine is inserted into the gun. So the player must find the correct code in their actual CC folder, and paste it into the game.

Just commenting to say that I would not buy this. It’s not that it wouldn’t be worth the money, just that I don’t do shareware. I would probably buy it if I found it in my local Walmart or EB…*cough* Gamestop.

This is a shout out to all you other lurkers out there!
    HI GEORGE!

    *crawls back into the shadows*

  15. numgun - # September 22nd, 2007 at 3:07 am

Haha, I like that 3rd comment idea of your Purple. That would really increase modding since the players get to see whats the game made of and then they find out that its ridiculously easy too.

  16. whitty - # September 22nd, 2007 at 9:13 am

purple they should let you back into the forums, your a genius. and thor should be taken out of mod status, if not banned. hes gone power-crazy.

  17. tay104 - # September 22nd, 2007 at 10:05 am

    😀

  18. Blob - # September 22nd, 2007 at 10:33 am

Data, when wil be Dev log update?

  19. Blob - # September 22nd, 2007 at 11:39 am

Data is making Cortex Command Six Years. So nothing to blab that it would cost money.

  20. CommanderCool - # September 22nd, 2007 at 12:29 pm

wait, we have to PAY for this?!

    …gladly! :3

  21. Grif - # September 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 pm

    HURRMORONS

    That will be all.

Anyways, Purple, that’s a horrible idea; what if people just want to PLAY THE GAME?

  22. Khaz - # September 22nd, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Awesome game! I cannot wait to play the first commercial version.

  23. Purple - # September 22nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm

Modding is part of the game. What if people just want to BEAT Armadillo Run, too bad, you have to work for it.

Why does your entire comment consist of unconstructive criticism?

  24. iwillcontrolyou - # September 22nd, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Purple: That idea about modding would make for an interesting tutorial level, but not really a main campaign level. Just doesn’t seem to fit the style of the game.

  25. Bunda the Great - # September 22nd, 2007 at 4:59 pm

This is going to be awsummm!
What is going to be the deal with pricing, etc?

  26. numgun - # September 22nd, 2007 at 6:40 pm

IWCY, yeah, it would suit well as a modding tutorial level that isnt a part of the campaign.

But it sure would rock if it was implemented.

  27. Darkomni - # September 22nd, 2007 at 8:23 pm

Hm. Is it possible that somebody might fake Data and come on and make everybody sad?

  28. whitty - # September 22nd, 2007 at 9:15 pm

it should be, so people dont have to learn from nothing like most of us did.

  29. Striker26 - # September 22nd, 2007 at 11:51 pm

even when we had to learn from nothing, it was still incredibly easy

  30. sllide - # September 23rd, 2007 at 1:01 am

    finealy
the game is making real progres
i cant wait untill the campain mode is done

  31. Eric - # September 23rd, 2007 at 7:05 am

Trying to figure out what “These comments are moderated” means, when all of these irrelevant, stupid comments keep popping up.

  32. Slim22 - # September 23rd, 2007 at 8:53 am

Hi DRL! Good work, this is gonna rock!
@Direavenger for money cheats, look in base.rte/activities.

  33. Robert - # September 23rd, 2007 at 8:54 am

I’ve been playing this game for a little while, only since build 17. I have to say it is an amazing game. Numgun, I’d like to say I think that is an incredible idea. One of the main reasons I liked Liero Xtreme was the fact that I could make my own sets of weapons (Dispite my lack of computer art skills :P). I know I’d like some sort of creator made tutorial because I’m sick of hunting on the internet for how do do even the simplest of tasks and getting a bunch of people “speekin n 1337” calling people “nubs” and saying how “ezy” it is. I would definatly concider purchasing this game, that’s for sure.

On a side note, I noted that some people *cough* Grif *cough* are just outright mean and cruel. I don’t care how bad your ideas are, I don’t think it’s fair of you to bash people who can come up with good ones. Jealousy doesn’t become you.

  34. Leevizer - # September 23rd, 2007 at 9:20 am

    “Game 10/10 Community 1/10″ -Purple

    “I completely agree.” – Oblivion

“so do i. the forums have gone to hell. they need some serious help.”

O rly? (Ya rly)… youre absolutely right (Someone copypaste this…)

  35. coilgunner - # September 23rd, 2007 at 12:08 pm

looks awesome! Cant wait for the final version, I’ll defiantly buy it without a doubt.

  36. Grif - # September 23rd, 2007 at 3:22 pm

OH YES I’M OBVIOUSLY JEALOUS OF EVERYONE; THAT’S MY SECRET INTERNAL REASON FOR FLAMING

WELL DONE THERE MR FRUED, YOU JUST DIAGNOSED MY ENTIRE CONSCIENCE BASED ON YOUR EVALUATION OF PERHAPS A KILOBYTE OF TEXTUAL INFORMATION ON ONE CORNER OF THE INTERNET

    VERY GOOD.

If you missed it, I’m being sarcastic.

I’ll pay for whatever build is the first pay build, regardless of price.

  37. Wildstar - # September 26th, 2007 at 7:12 am

Will the full game be on a platform?

  38. devolute - # September 26th, 2007 at 10:47 am

I’m seriously going to consider paying for this to get the ‘full feature set’. Cripes. I never thought I’d say that!

  39. James 000000 - # October 2nd, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Errr this is gonna cost money ….. right???

  40. A cow, moo - # October 4th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

    I’m going to buy it.
If nothing else, for the scene editor. Also, if what’s-his-name gets his Weapon Maker done, that should probably be included with the download.

  41. GameR - # October 10th, 2007 at 10:28 am

    !!!!!!!!.

  42. DireAvenger - # October 21st, 2007 at 2:43 am

If we have to buy it at the point of store management, Please make it something like $10/$5. I don’t want to play $56 To buy this awesome game!

  43. BRYAN - # January 1st, 2008 at 5:07 am

Wow! Enemies can play it and then, BOOOOOOOOM!
