KaBOOM! Build 20 is out! Lots of fun explosive stuff in here: proper detonation effects for all the ships, including the rocket!

Other improvements:

Mods (.rte folders) can now be loaded in the trial version, and little more time allowed for skirmishes too
Sound looping bugs fixed, diggers and engines won’t sound after they are destroyed or the AI uses them etc
Various graphical bugs with lines in the background etc on reset fixed
TDExplosives now work properly, the flak cannon’s projectiles always detonate, for example
Various bugs with legs not behaving properly, like the crab tucking etc
New experimental shock absorbing legs on the rocket. Needs some more work
Many more small improvements and tweaks

If you have the previous build 19, you CAN install this directly over it, without unregistering.
(Although you do NOT need build 19 to install this!)

HOLY CRAP.

Not sure it’s a good idea to allow mods in the trial though. It’s already easy to remove the timelimit if you know how, so there’s not much being offered in the full version that’s not in the trial now.

Oh yeah by the way HIRO, i’m using computer since 10 years now and i never get any virus I’m also graphic designer, web designer and i code on my spare time with many programming languages. I’m graduated in computer graphics and learned DOS, MacOs, Linux and Windows myself. I only stick to Pc cause is rather cheap and yes : 600€ is damn expensive compared to 200€ mini-Pc with the same specs (never heard about Mini-Pc ? Ooo Poor Boy).

But having budget probably doesn’t concern you since you’re probably a kid (i hope so cf. “20th comment for build 20 lloloololo”). That’s why you’ll probably never build your own machine to minimize cost.

Finally you won’t go very far with this attitude in life. I’ve try to help you with the boot camp solution and you just insult me. This telling your maturity.

Little dissappounted that there weren’t any new levels, but hey, you win some and you lose some.

About the bouncy legs: they are like the old ones where they move based on if the main engine is on or not, I think they should move based on where the rocket is compared to the ground.

All in all, it’s a great update for 2008!

Hope we see some great new weapons/characters/levels in the days to come!

Dont make the same mistake I did and uninstall the old one first without unregitering….Im a neat freak and always uninstall old versions first. The game wont accept your key if you do this. You MUST unregister the old version before uninstalling (if you do uninstall like me).

When I click on the install B20 icon, I get an ‘access violation’ window.

I have a key, and I’ve tried unregistering just to see if it’d change it, but I can’t access the installation no matter what I do.

Anyone got a fix?

First, thanks for the life story. Unfortunately, I didn’t give a crap about it, especially when you tried (and failed) to analyze my “attitude” over two comments on a devlog.
Second, I knew about bootcamp before it even was released, so you can stop waiting for me to graciously thank you like you’re some kind of omniscient benefactor. I’m not using it because I’m not sure I can get a pirated windows XP copy to work with it.
Third, I find it hypocritically hilarious how you try to insult my maturity when you not only don’t know a damn thing about me, but also when you revive a pointless flame war from a previous devlog post rather than act the age you say you are and shut your mouth. Really, you shouldn’t bother with “poor boys” like me, right?

im probalby going to change my rockets legs back to how they were before. The new ones are glithcy. in my 1st skirmish match, i made a thing like:

I..I
I..I
I..I
I..I
I..I

in the ground. (the “.” is 1×1 open space, the “I” is the wall.) The rocket landed in it sideways, and the legs got snagged or something and twisted the rocket to face the other direction. Like it turned 180 degrees. but the odd part was that the legs only touched it oncwe, and that was when it first got into the thing i made.

this is excellent. i especially like how you can use the “goto AI’ thing to specify which gold veins you want your miner to dig up. the smarter AI team also makes the game a whole lot more fun.

maybe the rocket legs would be better if they were a little less bouncy? they either need to be so soft that they absorb the entirety of landing impact, or so strong that they barely move. but they don’t really make it any more difficult to play the way they are, so it’s all good.

Impression: Flak cannon now it weapon of suicide. IMO it should not explode on contact. Same with grenade, better back old one. Or just make another grenade kinda “Retro Grenade” which will act like old. Rocket legs are too bouncy >_< I can’t place my rocket over angled landscape at all. Woohoo! Now jump`n`flip move not hurting clone so much like it was in last build. Rocket explosions make it like an attack rocket. Just 1 rocket into enemy gate and it exploded.

There is one little thing, which is no biggie, but it is a little
weird… When one has the classic keyboard config, the counter

great stuff! I haven’t been able to check up on CC since build 17 and it’s changed a lot since then, congrats on getting near a paid release. One problem I did find in this build (don’t know if it was in an earlier one) was that when you have a door or something ghosted before you place it, when it animates it still interacts with the world and cuts an arc through the earth and any buildings. also one of your opponents can do the same easily to take out any of your buildings.

Not sure if im fond of the springy rocket feet now, and the rockets tend to explode when i leave em too long, giving me no time to move the dudes i just dropped… ah well. I did play this game for the splosions, and theres lot of those!

scuse me while i fill a dropship with crabs and use it as a deep space crustacean shock wave bomb. (appears to be my only tactic for filling in holes, now that ships are too inconsiderate to stay in one piece when scuttled!

Hey data. Here are some errors that I think you should fix and some suggestions:

Errors:

-Gold Dig AI
-Frag Grenades aren’t being counted as a weapon when you place them at the beginning.

Suggestions:

-Make grenades shoot fire like the rocket explotions.
-Mabey four different teams? (Like Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow).
-Add Heath packs?
-And finnaly, add water as a terrian.

@PIE: Water+pixel physics=massive lag. Blood works b/c there’s only a little of it at a time.
And net play is impossible with current technology as well. Ask again in a few years.

You know what CC needs the most? To use the GPU. Not netplay or LAN play, (which cannot happen without a MAJOR overhaul) not water, (again, not possible without an engine overhaul) but GPU support. No kidding.

Sergei: I doubt Data would have a use for you. Nothing personal.

Jay, the GPU is a pathetic processor, it would lend only minor advantages. The best graphis card you can get might lend 500 mhz of processing power, and even then it’s all optimized for 3d performance, not 2d games with particle counts in the millions.

Yeah, but from what I’ve read, GPUs are optimized for multithreading-style computations. I dunno what that has to do about anything, but it sounds useful. I might be talking out of my ass though.

All right, first of all I’d like to say that this new build rocks and I’m very excited for it’s release.

But now for the problems.

There are a few things that are extreme annoyances for me, the biggest one is the dropships. I hardly get to kill the enemies because they kill themselves and litter the map with dropship parts!

How I’ve dealt with this is one, making the dropships weigh less so they don’t crush their own units, and make them about three times stronger than they normally are. This reduces the amount of their self destruction, but not completely. I’m thinking that perhaps a teleportation beam would work better, that way there’s more units to shoot, and less time keeping underground to take cover from enemy suicide.

Data, perhaps in the next build you could maybe make it so that dropships will not land near another one is? Or, another way to solve this problem might be to make it so that you cannot collide with an ally, like they walk right past eachother, or fly right past eachother.

Whatever you do, please address this problem.

Normal price key: may work on only one FULL INSTALLATION NOT VERSION of cortex command throughout the development of cc(although from what DATA said you have to buy all expansions separetly(no seprise there)). so if you buy at B20 and then get B25 your key will work if you un-register you B20 version.
Support version: same as above just way more expensive.

for all you wondering why net play would be impossible.

Net play would be impossible because this game is heavy on the physics and uses a particle which for it to work properly every players computer would have to be synchronized down to a small fraction of a second between them because the particles would have to synchronize every pixel. otherwise the game would take about a minute for a single frame cause that game needs everything to synchronize before it can play.

Tomaster, good point although I prefer clones to get ripped to pieces by the shrapnel. Or maybe it could tumble a bit before sploding because sometimes it is no fun having it go boom on impact.

What would be cool if materials could be deformed instead of just breaking off in little particles. That reminds me, would it be possible to make slightly “sticky” substances like mud or blood and make particles of it stick to actors? I would love to see a mud covered drop ship or an actor with muddy boots covered in blood or a base interior covered with blood. Also it would be cool if blood could act more liquid like instead of disappearing when an actor steps on it and shells could be kicked around.

I think you should make the game have a 5 day free trial then it stops working, i personaly don’t think 6 minutes is enought o evaluate a game. I would say 30 days like other programs but because the game isn’t huge yet you wont want to wait long for the money

Besides the second law of thermodynamics(which /does/ have to do with the devlog, if you get the metaphor), there’s the fact that there’s only so much in the post to be discussed, and once that’s done…if Data spend a lot more time on the Devlog, gave people lots of neat little things to discuss, maybe it’d be a bit more OT.
Of course, most of us would probably want him to just keep cranking out those builds. I know I would.

All i did was post a dumb quote my friend made up, and what I said was actually quite relevant to my post because my post while a bit random it was about a mod in CC that has the robopope in it, and is therefore relevant to CC. Now while on the topic of that actor I remembered a something my friend said, and thought that it was amusing so i posted it. That is when you began to debate over it.

Yes!! It was teh monkeys. I was going to capture DATA and force him to release a new build, and as i was going to his house, i saw a bunch of monkeys in an organized formation. I thought this was unusual at the time, but thought nothing of it. As i arrived at DATA’s house, i saw the front door busted down. I went inside a saw bananas all over the place. hmmmm. I just had a great idea, why not have custom campaigns!!

That way there would always be new content, and it would be very difficult to get bored “imagines random campaign involving a soldier getting grounded and having to break out”.

I meant when DATA has time he could implement a custom campaign editor where you select maps make objectives and then tie them together. Custom cutscenes would rock, and could be done easily in a way such as you place a soldier and select it and say at “certain time” go here quickly or have a bullet appear offscreen and go to that soldiers head have the soldier set to die when it hits then the camera zooms sideways and shows a soldier with a (yet to be made) sniper rifle. That would be a great way for an assassination to go.

i hate to disappoint you guys with macs,but i’m gonna. not 100% sure on this, but i remember watching a video of Matthew Wegener’s (guy from fun-motion.com)workshop on physics based games. he described reasons, which are beyond me, about how hard it is to port a physics game over to the mac os. something about floating points bla bla. basicly it would involve entirely re-writing the game. I don’t see data putting any time into that till the windows version is 100% complete. just an assumption, please don’t flame.

problom with online games is that a side affect of the 150 mhz procecer is that my broadband connection is giving my at most 25ks luckily diablo while by far inferior to diable 2 is still good, and my PC is going to be fixed by tomorrow.

@Anonymous: I’m pretty sure that you would be pissed if your computer broke and fixing it costs $100(no i’m not a poor hobo that thinks a doller is a fortune) while maybe is anoying(sorry for spelling while I would use a spell checker or whatever this mac doesn’t have one.)
