2009 started out a bit rocky for progress on Cortex Command. Distractions large and small got in the way of serious development for all of January, but I am happy to report that we’re now back on track and chugging along just fine. We are working through a backlog of important features and fixes required by the content team and mod community – and then it’s on to development of the meta game in earnest.

The meta game is what will be going on in the planetary view, tying all the surface missions and activities together. It will be turn based, where the player gets to build his mining bases to generate income, which in turn can be spent on expanding and exploring new sites and discovering the dangerous secrets of the planet.

Also, we are thinking about making some Cortex t-shirts and other neat stuff like fridge magnets and stickers. Please let us know if you would be interested in buying such things with sweet prints like you see to the left. If there’s a lot of interest, we’ll get it going sooner!

Is the support email thing still active? I’ve sent off a couple emails to attempt to reset my CC key over the past few weeks, but I have yet to get a response back for good or bad (and no, that reset page thing on the internet will not work, as it only works once, and my key has already broken in various ways more than once).

If the devs see this post, I believe you have my email, and a response of some description would be great.

A plush toy dummy turret would be awesome in my eyes.

  20. PlasmaNova - # February 22nd, 2009 at 3:15 pm

Is there gonna be a story? Or will it just be random missions that get harder as you complete them? Or maybe both?

  21. Daman - # February 22nd, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Dear data, where the heck are our lua file libraries? If you’re going to take io out entirely, at least give us some alternative restricted functions for reading/writing to files inside the CC folder(Perhaps deny access to base.rte).

  22. Blarg - # February 23rd, 2009 at 2:08 am

If u made prints like this add more crabs like four or 5 or 6. I might be intrested in buying a shirt like that.

  23. bobbyb - # February 23rd, 2009 at 9:34 am

    Build 23?

  24. Octyl - # February 23rd, 2009 at 4:29 pm

    Oh man Cortex Command lego.

  25. Durza - # February 23rd, 2009 at 6:58 pm

    Do want.

  26. Mooseral - # February 24th, 2009 at 12:38 am

Der her her, apparently the licensing utilities have changed since I last looked at them, and are now actually rather useful and have mostly fixed my problem. Functionality is most definitely a plus.

Also, CC merch seems to be, as the comments so far have somewhat affirmed, a good idea. Not only might it net some extra income for Datarealms, but the fans get new shirts, and much additional publicity might also be had. And also there’s the whole “crab shirt ftw” thing to go along with it.

Yeah. Crab shirts. Actually, most of Prom’s art would probably translate well into merchandise form, even pixelly stuff based on in-game sprites.

  27. Kallemort - # February 24th, 2009 at 8:33 am

I can see the double meaning with “Free crabs”.

That shirt would sure get my popularity up.

  28. Warman - # February 24th, 2009 at 3:34 pm

    win ^

  29. Woose1 - # February 24th, 2009 at 6:04 pm

I’m not sure a a CC shirt would be allowed in my school.

I mean really, guys getting their limbs torn off, heads exploding like watermelons, smushed, charred, vaporized and crushed by various forms of dropship.

    Just sayin’.
    😀

  30. PyroKinesis1019 - # February 25th, 2009 at 4:03 pm

It would be really cool to have shirts with the intro artwork, the factions, or possibly a TradeStar. I would definitely buy a couple of shirts about THE BEST GAME EVER IN EXISTENCE WHICH IS JUST AS GOOD AS IJI, BUT CANNOT BE COMPARED (sorry, just stressing a point)

Merchandise would be awesome, and I could get even more people playing if I had an awesome shirt

  31. Allen - # February 25th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

maybe you should drop out of school

  32. Don885 - # February 26th, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Sweet i cant wait to play the new build but i dont like the turn based thing you were talking about i like it the way it is now. another thing when i was in school recently i made a Cortex Command T-shirt 😀

  33. w33n - # March 1st, 2009 at 10:14 am

I need this game so badly.

Data, get ready to see the cash roll.

    A little bit.

  34. w33n - # March 1st, 2009 at 10:15 am

Sorry for double-post but http://www.cafepress.com is excellent if you want to sell T-shirts and the like.

  35. Dan - # March 1st, 2009 at 11:20 am

How about a shirt that looks like a Dummy’s torso?

  36. Lorx - # March 1st, 2009 at 9:54 pm

T-shirt = win. Definitely would buy one, or two. or nine.

#1 Glitch Fix should really be the Gold Digging AI, it’d be nice if they actually dug for gold instead of pointing diggers skyward and standing there.

  37. MSB3000 - # March 3rd, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Yes, I would buy amazing CC t-shirts. Though it’s probably not possible, wouldn’t it be neat to have one of those positionable wooden model things, only as a Dummy? The ones artists use to help create a pose? Someone help me out here 🙁

But basically yeah, this game begs for action figures.

  38. TB87670 - # March 6th, 2009 at 3:44 pm

Well, I just bought the game a bit after I read about it. Funny I never heard about it until I read the Indie Games Festival website.

Honestly, and this is the opinion of a new serial key owner and new fan, shirts and magnets will not make the game popular. I found it by pure luck. I paid to help Data prioritize game development more, and while I’m sure my lone purchase won’t be enough I’m sure to say there’s enough fans who did pay it would be great if we got regular updates now, because it seems a bit odd that we have no guarantee of game completion yet there’s merchandise out there. If no one knows about the game why make the accessories, usually game devs do the opposite with game first.

Eyyo data u doin pretty good. Im lovin the cortex command game. Been playing it for a while and i have to say you guys have really improved. Here are some ideas ive though about

-More ammo for laser rifle.(30 is only enough for one guy if u manage to get the whole clip on him. against an army wouldnt work well, specially with the long reload.)
    -Better and more shields.
    -brown coat faction weapons.
    -allow crabs to jump.
-give dummies some type of bleeding/malfunctioning effect.(soldiers bleed, robots start get sparks.)
-increase limb strength(some limbs are shot off to easily.)
-give browncoats a head. (not just a helmet that takes a lot of damage and when destroyed, the browncoat dies.)
    -more variety of coalition.
    -more variety of dummies.
    -more variety of browncoats.
-give drones a slightly higher jumping limit.
-option toggle of how many enemies spawn.(long time ago enemies came down smokin fast. now they dont come down so fast. allow an option that toggles how many enemies come.)

Thats about all the ideas i can think off at the top of my head. Hope you guys take a moment to think of these ideas!
